Fusion Academy

National Locations

"

One of the exciting parts of working with Fusion Education Group is utilizing our design and problem-solving skills to help expand their educational brands serving students in a non-traditional class setting across the country. As a bonus, it is always great to work with a company that shares your own company values.

The Ask

Helping build educational facilities is one of our passions, which is why we are so honored to be in our fifth year of partnering with Fusion Academy, an accredited private school campus providing personalized learning through one-to-one education for grades 6-12. Our most recent project with Fusion is located in Boulder County and features new finishes, lighting and concepts that were developed collaboratively between Fusion and CDA.

The Task

For this Louisville, CO location, the team at CDA took advantage of the building’s abundance of natural lighting, prioritizing daylight for some of the more commonly used social spaces and labs. Our goal was to create a thoughtful layout that included 40 different teaching, administrative, breakout, and service spaces that optimized use of natural daylight, while maintaining the required six foot educational corridors in only 9,000 square feet of space. However, in addition to the design of the plan and construction documents, one of our biggest challenges when working on any Fusion school is successfully complying with any educational code requirements, ensuring that the local jurisdiction will approve of an educational space located within a larger mixed use or business occupancy building.

Though this was not our first Fusion location, we were able to incorporate newly approved design elements into this school, which we had not fully implemented into past locations. We used BuzziPleat Lights to create not only the perfect atmospheric lighting for students to complete their homework on site, but also to provide excellent acoustic performance –– an important characteristic of any quiet study area. We also used Daltile ceramic tile backsplash at custom millwork areas for easy maintenance and adding pops of color inspired by Fusion’s brand. Sap Walnut Wood Laminates are the perfect millwork finish solution for their cost effectiveness and warm inviting tones and Interface Carpet are utilized throughout for durability and acoustic qualities to warm up educational spaces.

Throughout our partnership, the client has loved our efficient and thoughtful school design layouts, and the Boulder County location was no exception.
