Granatos Gourmet Market
Salt Lake City, UT
Granato’s Importing Company and Deli has been a fixture in Salt Lake City for more than 70 years, known for its authentic Mediterranean and Italian offerings and loyal local following. As the brand expanded into the newly redeveloped Salt Lake City International Airport, the challenge was to translate that neighborhood-driven identity into a high-traffic travel environment while maintaining its sense of authenticity.
Chipman Design Architecture adapted the concept to fit within the airport setting, balancing operational efficiency with a design that still feels grounded in the brand’s history. The storefront is defined by blackened steel and a streamlined awning, creating a clear point of entry that draws travelers into a clean, approachable interior designed to showcase product and brand identity.
Inside, a restrained palette of gray, white and green establishes a simple backdrop, allowing the merchandise and food offerings to remain the focus. Warmth is introduced through timber ceiling elements and layered lighting, including Tivoli lights that create a more relaxed and welcoming atmosphere within the fast-paced airport environment.
The result is a travel retail environment that successfully blends efficiency, brand storytelling and hospitality, allowing Granato’s to extend its presence into a new context while staying true to its origins.
