Gap
National Locations
Gap Inc., one of the most recognized retail brands in North America, has worked with Chipman Design Architecture for nearly two decades to implement and evolve its store environments across the United States and Canada. Supporting Gap, GapKids, babyGap and Gap Outlet, CDA plays a key role in translating established brand standards into scalable retail architecture solutions that adapt to a wide range of locations and store formats.
Working closely with Gap’s in-house store planning and creative teams, Chipman Design Architecture helps integrate prototypical design elements while responding to the unique merchandising and operational needs of each site. This includes both new store development and renovation programs, where value-conscious design decisions support consistency while managing construction budgets and timelines across a national rollout.
Flagship projects, including the Times Square location, reflect a forward-looking approach to retail design within high-volume, urban environments. The store is designed to create transparency and visual engagement at the street, drawing in one of the highest pedestrian counts in the country while supporting a flexible merchandising strategy throughout the space. New fixture systems allow for adaptability across hanging and folded product, while large central platforms create strong visual moments that highlight seasonal product and brand storytelling.
Technology and customer experience are integrated throughout the layout, including mobile point-of-sale systems that support a more flexible and responsive retail model. Traditional cash wrap configurations are reimagined as smaller, distributed stations, allowing the store to scale with demand and support more individualized customer interactions.
Material and color strategies further reinforce the brand while creating distinction across different areas of the store. While the core palette maintains Gap’s signature clarity, targeted moments such as the Denim Bar introduce warmer materials like oak and steel, while GapKids and babyGap environments incorporate lighter, more playful elements that reflect each sub-brand.
Across its ongoing partnership with Gap Inc., Chipman Design Architecture continues to support retail rollout programs by developing environments that balance brand consistency, operational flexibility and a strong customer experience at scale.
