Make Room for Truman
Park Ridge, IL
This project reimagines a longstanding restaurant concept within the charming downtown setting of Park Ridge, Illinois, introducing a refreshed approach that aligns with a modern interpretation of classic American fare. Chipman Design Architecture was tasked with evolving the existing space into an environment that feels lighter, more inviting and more reflective of the brand’s direction.
Working within the existing footprint, CDA transformed a previously dark and heavy interior into a more open and approachable setting. The updated palette introduces brighter finishes and simpler material expressions, creating a clean backdrop that allows the dining experience and menu to feel more contemporary while maintaining a sense of familiarity.
The design draws from a modern farmhouse aesthetic, reinterpreting rural influences in a more refined and intentional way. Materials such as butcher block, shiplap and painted wood elements are layered throughout the space, creating texture and warmth without overwhelming the environment. These architectural elements are reinforced by curated details, including art installations inspired by agricultural tools and references to traditional Americana.
The result is a restaurant environment that balances comfort and clarity, creating a space that feels both updated and rooted in its origins, while supporting a more flexible and engaging dining experience for the community.
