Hotel Versey

Located at a busy intersection in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, Hotel Versey was designed to reflect the character and diversity of its surrounding communities, including Lincoln Park, the lakefront, Wrigleyville and Boystown. The concept connects local history with the energy of the neighborhood, creating a hospitality environment that feels grounded, familiar and distinctly tied to its setting.
Chipman Design Architecture approached the lobby design with a focus on flexibility within a compact footprint, organizing the 1,300 square foot space into a series of zones that support a range of guest needs. Seating is intentionally varied and adaptable, allowing for individual work, small group gatherings or short-term use during arrival and departure. Integrated power and charging support functionality, while a defined work zone offers a more private setting within the open plan.
Material and graphic elements are used to guide movement and reinforce identity throughout the space. Patterns within the flooring create subtle wayfinding to key destinations, while a central communal table acts as both a social anchor and flexible workspace.
The design draws heavily from the surrounding neighborhood, incorporating custom artwork and locally inspired details that add depth without overwhelming the space. References to Chicago’s music and cycling culture are integrated throughout, culminating in a large-scale graphic installation that reflects the layered identity of the area.
