The Cambria Hotel & Suites Chicago Loop – Theatre District draws inspiration from the contrast between Chicago’s ordered grid and the layered, expressive character found within its neighborhoods and cultural institutions. Located above the historic Oriental Theatre, the project reflects this duality, balancing structure with a sense of discovery influenced by the surrounding theatre district.
Chipman Design Architecture developed the hotel’s interior environment to support both guests and visitors, creating a flexible hospitality space that extends beyond the traditional lobby. The welcome area is organized into a series of zones, allowing for a range of uses from individual work to informal gatherings and bar or restaurant activity, all within a cohesive layout that supports flow and comfort.
Material selections build on brand standards while responding to the local context, introducing a warmer and more textured palette throughout the space. Neutral backdrops are layered with artisanal finishes, while warm greys and deep blues are accented by jewel-toned purples and copper. Mixed metals, including forged iron and polished nickel, reinforce a sense of depth and detail, resulting in a hospitality environment that feels both grounded and elevated within its urban setting.
