The Estate at Hyde Park
Tampa, Florida
Work with Senior Lifestyle Corporation has taken shape across a range of communities nationwide, each with its own character, residents and operational needs. At The Estate at Hyde Park, what initially began as a focused interior refresh uncovered a larger opportunity to rethink how the space could better support daily life within the community.
The timing added a layer of complexity. With the project underway just prior to the pandemic, the team had to adjust its approach in real time, navigating shifting safety protocols while maintaining momentum through construction, procurement and installation. Flexibility became as critical as design intent, requiring close coordination and constant recalibration to bring the project forward.
The design direction draws from its Tampa Bay setting, but in a more restrained way. Rather than leaning into expected coastal cues, the palette shifts toward something softer and more grounded, drawing on plant textures, deeper blues and layered natural materials. That shift became even more important once it was clear that portions of the existing finishes would remain, leading to a more nuanced approach that could bridge what was new with what was already in place.
Working through those constraints ultimately strengthened the outcome. Existing tones of wood, green and brown were absorbed into the scheme, balanced with new materials and furnishings that introduced warmth without overpowering the environment. An extensive value engineering process further shaped the design, ensuring the project remained aligned with budget while still delivering on the broader vision.
What emerged feels calm, cohesive and lived in from the start. The space doesn’t rely on a singular design gesture, but instead builds a sense of comfort through layering, familiarity and subtle connection to place.
