Bodega Taqueria y Tequila

Menin Hospitality looked to create a restaurant concept for Bodega Taqueria y Tequila that could shift throughout the day, moving from a quick lunch setting into an active dinner environment and, later, a more energetic nightlife venue. Located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, the design needed to support that range of use without losing clarity or identity.
Chipman Design Architecture addressed the project at both the architectural and experiential levels, working within the constraints of an existing multi-story parking structure. Integrating an operable folding storefront into the curtain wall required careful coordination, ultimately opening the space to the street and allowing the interior to expand and contract depending on time of day and use.
Inside, the material approach is layered but controlled. Reclaimed wood, metal and tile introduce texture and depth, creating an atmosphere that can feel casual during the day and more immersive at night without requiring a complete shift in design. The space is organized to support that transition, allowing the program to evolve while the environment remains consistent.
